Handwriting the Constitution
Part of COD's Constitution Day celebration, Handwriting the Constitution is a nation-wide project that encourages studying and reflecting on the supreme law of the United States of America through writing.
Writing by hand strengthens the learning process—it involves many of our senses and gives the brain feedback from physical activity. As artist Morgan O'Hara writes, "hand copying a document can produce an intimate connection to the text and its meaning. The handwriter may discover things about this document that they never knew, a passage that challenges or moves them. They may even leave with a deeper connection to the founders and the country, or even a sense of encouragement."
Join us on in the Library atrium - we'll supply the pens, paper, and the text of the Constitution. Share your handwritten examples in our gallery or with a global audience by posting online using the hashtag #handwritingtheconstitution
